I think the next Pertwee?s we will see will be the liked of ?The Daemons? and ?Invasion of the Dinosaurs? though, they can benefit from dot chrome reconstruction which was used for ?Planet of the Daleks?, shame they didn?t realise before ?Doctor Who and the Silurians? was released, that would have a better picture using dot chrome restoration then the use of NTSC tapes.

Not necessarily:
1) Not all B&W film recordings HAVE the chroma dots to start with. They were meant to be stripped out during recording, and on some recordings (like Mind of Evil pt 1), they actually were.
2) Even where they exist, they aren’t necessarily clear enough to recover the colour
3) Even when you CAN recover colour, that doesn’t mean that the resulting colour will be stable and broadcast-quality.

The Planet of the Daleks recolourisation is a blend of from-scratch computer colouring (done before they got the chroma-dot process working) and the chroma-dot recovery. If you look at the official article on it – http://www.purpleville.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/rtwebsite/DalekWarDVD.htm – you’ll notice some of the problems with the colour on the chroma-dot-only pictures (the middle ones – notice the heavy rainbow-patterning on Jo’s hair and jumper in the first set of pictures), and that they say “the CR colour was unstable and noisy”.

I think part of the problem is that it’s not shown (especially since Doctor-blue is apparently fine) why the Doctor needed to do such a catastrophic search-and-destroy on Donna’s memory. He needed to remove the imprint of himself, fine. Perhaps the events of TL, TSE & JE as well since they all tie into that. But why EVERYTHING since TRB? If anything, by blocking stuff he doesn’t need to, he heightens the risk of it all bursting out one day surely.

I think it’s locked relative to the Earth’s gravity well – it moves around the centre of the earth in geosynchronous orbit – rather than being stretched and squeezed as the Earth moves around the sun, and the whole solar system moves around the centre of the galaxy, and the galaxy moves around…

You will note, however, that she was prompted to notice practically everything here (it was only Wilf’s intervention that made her realise what the labour camps were, for instance). About the only exception was the equivalent of the TRB events themselves.

I think you?re wrong. The reason some people are focussing on the arc is because of how little the stand alone aspects of the ep succeed. For a story that was supposed to show Donna?s Great Importance, what it actually showed was how dead we?d be without the Doctor. She saved his life once – so have loads of companions (and guest characters), so much as his life CAN be saved – and that?s really not enough to grant her this mythic status.

Well, quite.

Moreover, there’s no indication that the Doctor came so close to (effectively) suicide between TRB and S&J, or between VotD and PiC, when he was travelling without a companion- Doomsday/TRB was just his One Bad Day. And, for a basically Rational (as opposed to magic-dominated) universe like DW, putting “fate” and “prophecy” into things… doesn’t really work.

Although, of course, episodes like the terminally horrid Shakespeare Code chip away at that foundation.

1) How do we know he didn’t regenerate? We never saw his face – and if he regenerates UNDERWATER, he’s going to burn through regenerations at a rate unseen since The Curse of Fatal Death. Was the guy who claimed “too fast to regenerate” familiar with him?
2) Either way, the point was that he was both homicidal *and* suicidal in that scene from TRB. Again, who’s to say he wouldn’t have let it go (I think whoever claimed you *have* to trigger a regen has it backwards though – they can HOLD BACK regens until it’s too late, but that doesn’t mean it can’t happen automagically – otherwise, how did the unconscious 3 regenerate into 4, 6 regenerate into 7, or (the kicker) 7 into 8)?
3) All the Time Lords (Except the Doctor himself) who got shot on the old show stayed down…

I don?t find the conclusion silly, it?s just a little perfunctory – the kind of climax everybody does. Which is only a shame because for 90 minutes the film had been rich, intelligent, smartly performed and cleverly structured. The finale was just ?fine??hurt slightly because Nolan is still figuring out how to shoot and cut action.

What really hurts the Bat-Begins finale for me isn’t so much that – it’s the fact that Batman effectively LOSES (all he does is reduce the scale of the disaster, not avert it), but from then on it’s treated as a victory [bar a swift line or two in the very last scene]. Didn’t Gordon get a lungful of the fear-gas steam? Didn’t about a quarter of Gotham (not just the Narrows)? It’s dealt with as if everything after the house fire was pretty much wrapped up cleanly.

In essence, the legends left the production for the following reasons: –

1) The legends were anticipating the new show to be “bigger and better”, but they did not feel that it was either and that it did not do justice to the great show that they were a part of.

2) Concerns over safety – the legends had some concerns over the safety of some of the equipment, in relation to their own personal safety.

3) Insurance – the legends were not happy with the arrangements in place regarding insurance, in particular that previous injuries would not be covered by the insurance. The legends could not afford to put their personal incomes at risk for the show.

4) Personas – the legends were told that they could not use their Gladiator names and would be contenders, wearing contender style costumes. The legends did not want their final appearances on Gladiators to be as contenders. It was never about being a contender for Scorpio – she was an original Gladiator !

So there were a variety of reasons for them pulling out, all of which are understandable.

They couldn’t execute that concept with latex – certainly, not so it would look right in anything except a straight profile shot. The concept involves stripping away skin & flesh, to the point of seeing the teeth through a big hole in the cheek. You can only build up with latex, not strip away.

I’m sure I read that the plan was for Joker to get captured in movie 2, then have a relatively small role in movie 3 with Batman checking in to try and get info on Two-Face (who would be the main villain in movie 3), and possibly something bigger in movie 4 if they got that far.

With that all out of the window, who knows what they’ll do – I wouldn’t bet on them having the footage to do a Joker death scene, but I suppose it’s not impossible.

Each time it does, it grows on me a little. I still prefer the Series 1-3 theme, though. Overall it?s my favourite Who theme EVAR, very closely followed by Peter Davison?s theme.

Umm… Series 1 theme != Series 2-3 theme (and there might have been some more subtle tweaks between 2 & 3).

The S1 theme was built from samples, and had no middle eight.

The S2-3 theme(s) was (were) performed by the National Orchestra of Wales. And had the middle eight.

The difference isn’t so drastic as the S4 theme, but the original Delia Derbyshire theme elements were far stronger in the S1 theme. They kind of got buried in the live-orchestra theme.

Dunno about that, but I’ve been looking at the website there… pretty much for the first time since Relaunch Day, and a couple of things:

1) The “features” navigation feels wrong – there’s no first/last page link (given that there’s only ten a page, and how many pages that translates to, getting to older articles is a real chore), and (even if chronologically it’s accurate) clicking the “back” link to go to “older articles” feels counter-intuitive since they’re numbered in reverse (“(Showing 1 to 10 of 137)” being the most recent page)

2) The “random” page header is cute, but that it’s sticky feels like it defeats the purpose.
