Me too. The deleted scenes with Jeep Hebrides from Song for Europe are fantastic.

    > I was worried I wouldn’t like [Regeneration] … but it’s really quite refreshing

I agree. I was already a Divine Comedy fan when it came out, and I didn’t know what to make of it. People were accusing him of selling out, and I wasn’t sure whether I agreed. I remember halfheartedly sticking up for the album with friends of mine who found it disappointing, arguing that maybe Neil’s tongue was still firmly in his cheek, and he’d just used the trappings of popular Indie music to make what we should still regard as a proper Divine Comedy album, just as he’d done with chamber pop, electro etc in the past. Now I reckon he probably just made the album he wanted to make at the time, in the way he wanted to make it, and it’s a cracking album. The Beauty Regime especially is brilliant.

I think you’re probably right about the reviews, SingingPotato, and even if it’s a shit hole now it’s only for one night.

Quite a few of the reviews I read were pretty unfavourable but I’m staying there the night of the last recording anyway because it’s fairly cheap. (I’m not usually tighter than an Italian waiter’s keks but it’s nearly Xmas and I had train fares to pay as well etc bah humbug.) The Warren Lodge hotel, also in Church Square, looks a bit better but is more expensive.

    > I’m excited, but I’m keeping my expectations low.

I’m trying to. I’d rather the series continued in the same vein as BTE than returned to anything like VIII, so the fact that VIII is the only Dwarf we’ve got thus far that was written by Naylor without Grant, with a studio audience in mind, is a bit worrying. So is Danny’s Duane Dibbley tweet. On the other hand, listening again to the Dimension Jump DwarfCasts, Doug’s ideas for X as regards character development etc. sound really promising. Regardless of how the series eventually turns out, I can’t help but be excited about actually going to a recording. Whatever happens, January 27th is gonna be a stupendous moment in my own personal history.

Ah, well, they’ll have found this site because of a forum topic I started about Derek and Clive, so presumably it was Derek and Clive they were after. I’d like to think somebody found her way here after searching for a method of inflating her breasts though.

There’s a very good Rimmer reaction shot in part 1 that’s missing from the director’s cut. It’s when the Cat’s telling him about being attacked by the squid.

A friend tells me that due to a mistake the version of the halloween special included as an extra on the series 2 DVD and Blu-ray is the shorter American edit. I don’t know why it was made but apparently a lot of the Lomax story is missing. The halloween special is getting its own release at some point though, possibly with extras that aren’t on the series 2 discs.

She wasn’t a patient at Ravenhill though. IIRC she only ended up there with Jelly at the end of the first series because she was handcuffed to him as part of a magic trick he was performing at the old people’s home where she lived, and the key was eaten by another resident.

I thought the Halloween episode was quite weak but last night’s was excellent. Grace Andrews was very funny, as was Jelly, Tealeaf and Lomax being questioned by the “pig” in the graveyard.

    > The radio series one and two are BETTER than books one and two. There, I said it.

It’s ages since I listened to it but I think I’m right in saying series two contains shitloads of really bizarre stuff, some of which is very good, that doesn’t feature in any other versions of Hitchhiker’s. The Lintilla clones, the bird people, the Shoe Event Horizon history lesson, the robot disco, the body debit card, that bit where Ford and Arthur flag down an imaginary spaceship by waving their towels at it, and then it crash-lands and they get stuck under a massive rock, and they look up what to do if you find yourself in exactly that situation in the Guide. I do prefer the Disaster Area’s stunt ship material to the Hagunnennon stuff from series one, though.

The wording in the press release might just mean that this new show will incorporate (some of) the post-Secondary phase radio stuff, which was adapted, by Maggs, from the novels by Adams. Which is still off-putting.

The press release does say “Based on the Novels” but, as Ian says, why would they bother to do that?

As for who should play The Book, maybe it’ll be Peter Jones in a sort of Richard Burton/War of the Worlds Live way, but without a big floating hologram head. Or maybe with a big floating hologram head, I dunno.

Both pretty impressive for fanfiction, especially TIRESIAS. I particularly like the flashback scenes at the beginning.
My one attempt at fanfic was an RD/Hitchhiker’s crossover – the story of how Lister ended up as a brain in a jar. If you know Hitchhiker’s you can probably figure it out.

All of these were must-see for me, and I’d like to see them again: Watt on Earth, Alfonso Bonzo and its spinoff, Billy Webb’s Amazing Stories, Kevin and Co., T-Bag, Simon and the Witch, Woof!, Jonny Briggs, and Uncle Jack, in which Fenella Fielding was wonderfully sinister as The Vixen. Jimmi Harkishin, who now plays Dev in Corrie, was in it too.
