I think the offending scene is reminiscent of Rose and Gwyneth’s scene in The Unquiet Dead.

That TK Maxximus line was great.

No, it fucking was fucking not. It was shit and stupid, both in writing and delivery.

Calm down Symesy, you twat. You don’t agree, then?

Everyone’s been very serious here. So, being as I’ve mentioned it on every other webboard/forum I’ve visited today, I don’t see why this should be any different…

That TK Maxximus line was great.

I’m sure in the ‘about the author’ section of one of their efforts – joint or individual, I can’t be sure – there’s an alludance to a ‘botched genetic experiment which took place in the late 1950’s’.

I have a very soft spot for the Howell 80s version as well – I love the middle eight, and that version has by far the best rendition. It really soars?

Me too – I have a 7″ single of it, with a scary picture of Tom Baker on the sleeve, which I grew up listening to. I listened to it the other night, and it still puts a big smile on my face.

It was my brother Tom’s 18th birthday at the weekend, and my nan was moaning at my uncle for getting him a card with a blonde bird with her tits out, urging him to make a contibution to a sperm bank. My uncle protested saying Tom was plenty old enough to know what it was about, but my Nan told him he didn’t want it ‘shoving down his throat’.

    Well I laughed…

I?m sure this is a completely new recording – not as orchestral.

Oh. Listened to both the Christmas opening theme, and Saturday’s opening theme last night, and they are, indeed, identical. The only difference being that Saturday’s is a couple of seconds shorter with a different ending.

Personally, I think the best theme is the 1973 ‘Delaware’ theme…

For anyone interested, there are lots of homemade ‘remixes’ and reimagining of the themes at http://whomix.trilete.net – a lot of them are shite, but there’s some good stuff too.

Okay – going back to the music – can’t listen to that there remix, cause of these bloody computers, but I’m sure this is a completely new recording – not as orchestral.
I agree about the music cues – the Doomsday music is beautiful, but felt shoehorned in here. But Rose…that had to be the best kept secret since Who’s return!

Also – did anyone else notice that when Foster finished her opening address in the lecture theatre, the ‘Industries’ behind her was framed as ‘DUST’? An intentional Little Britain/Marjorie Dawes/Weight-loss reference? Or am I reading too much into it?

As for ATMOS – I think it might be something to do with the Sontarans, but don’t quote me on that.

    Unless I’m right, obviously.

The Numberwang night was fine (especially Robert Robinson), but the pay-off was awful.

Nor me. Besides he’s already played a baddie. But then, so did Colin Baker, and look how well he turned out.

The last three episodes have been great, and I loved the kind-of-twist involving Gene, and the reveal of the clown. Am now looking forward to the next series, though I can’t think what the series arc will be now that the 10-10-10* thing’s out the way.

Alright, it was for a competition entry to spend a day with DJJ – you needed one from the single, and one from the smegazine.

I’ve got the official vhs for this. With a proper sleeve and everything. In fact, I used to have two, and I gave a (sleeveless) copy to someone as a present.
I’ve got the 12″ single, and the sleeve of my cassette single has a little hole where the ‘tabby token’ was…

Better every week. Although there was a lot of stuff I’d already heard (the destruction of Earth works better on the radio), which doesn’t make it less funnier. The Myth Child sketch was a particularly good one, though.

I’ve never got round to reading this thread – don’t know why – and still haven’t, to tell the truth – it’s too long, and the library only gives me an hour. However, anybody who prefers The Office to my beloved Red Dwarf deserves to be killed to death.

    Hyperdrive on the other hand…

    (Joke. Dead pan mode.)

I notice that people keep bringing up Partridge, but I was never that big a fan – I thought it was funny, but never went out of my way to watch it.

There’s plenty that I adore, comedy wise – Spaced, Python, League of Gentlemen, but do I prefer it to Red Dwarf? Never.

I always thought the Mcleans ad that was a rip off of RD was best, with Rob Llewellyn’s VO as Kryten at the end – “New Mcleans whitening – for a brighter, whiter future!”

Now *that* was more like it!

Absolutely fantastic last night – the working from home and the ‘everything’s fine’ sketches peticularly funny, as was the wedding/cancer sketch and dull-woman-in-library, which both were fab on the radio as well.

    Keep it up!

    > The problem is that I don?t peticularly like the Slater girl. She?s not stunningly attractive for a start – she?s got a funny chin and a large forehead.

Because that?s the important thing. Not plot, character or acting ability.

The Mirror’s TV critic called it ‘clever, not funny’, and as the weeks go by, I’m inclined to agree. They’re just not as funny as they can be.

I found a tape this week, which had episode one of series one, and I laughed more at that than I have done at three weeks of the new series, which makes me smile mostly, but nothing more.

Where have the snooker commentators gone (easily one of the funniest sets of characters)? Why do we still have Sir Digby Chicken Caesar, who I never liked?

Come on boys, you can do much better.

Let me get one thing clear – Mitchell and Webb are brilliantly funny, and very clever.

Which is why it’s a bit of a shock when you only find yourself smiling at the show.

The Pantomime sketch aside (which was sublime), last night’s show was only…alright.

And at least we’re getting closer to proper Numberwang.

I thought it was alright – a bit too angsty in parts, but some great acting from Russell Tovey. The problem is, I really can’t see it working as a series, as I can’t think of any other decent situations, without it either being too much like the pilot, or farcical.

    >Ashes to Ashes is all a bit meh.

Yeah, I agree. I really want to love it, but at the moment, it’s just fairly entertaining.
The theme music is just the right side of cheese (it’s naff 1981 – okay), but her voiceover at the beginning sounds awful.

It’s all held together by the dynamic trio of Ray, Chris and the Gene Genie.

Incidentally, there’s a Gene Hunt Appreciation Society on Facebook, if anyone’s interested – http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=10342346198&ref=mf
