Got back home to find my Battlefield DVD waiting for me today. Had a quick neb – not found any easter eggs yet. The Season 26 trailer is well naff.

Series two of Torchwood was a hell of a lot better than the first. Series three is, I believe, five episodes, showing Monday through Friday in a 9pm slot. Don’t know when, exactly.

Going back to Who, I bought myself The Dalek Invasion of Earth, Lost in Time, and Planet of Evil on Boxing Day, none of which I’ve managed to watch yet. Ho hum.

Mind you, the Sarah Jane pilot was shocking. It was a wonder it got a full season at all. At least they got rid of that black girl for the series.

I bought the RPG, but never played it as a)I don’t really do RPGs (I’ve never gone in for D&D type stuff) and b)I have no friends to play it with.

My character was a mechanoid I named Kretyn.

Last night’s was fantastic! Although, unlike last week’s, Douglas felt almost crowbarred in – there wasn’t really much need for him to be there. Moss was on top form though.

I can’t believe people don’t like this! I thought it was hilarious! The fight was great, and despite it being a Douglas story, it was nice to see Roy and Moss doing stuff together. And plenty of Moss, too. Great stuff.

I started going after stories that rated highly in Mark Campbell’s Pocket Essential Doctor Who episode guide, which I bought in 2003. I stopped trusing him after he gave The Gunfighters 5/5, and I bought the vid on that recommendation.
In that 40th anniversary edition, his introduction also said that the series was ‘dead’, and would not be returning any time in the forseeable future. Funnily enough, he also mentioned Queer as Folk, which was, of course, written by…

Got round to watching this last night, and immediately wished I’d recorded it. Marvellous. Interesting that this week’s IT Crowd effectively stemmed from Graham Linehan wanting to see Roy with no shirt on.

RTD is brilliant, and he really knows what he talks about. Or, even if he doesn’t, he believes – and more importantly, makes YOU believe – that he does.

God, I’ve tried writing, and can’t pull it off. And that’s why I enjoyed this so much.

    Okay…

First Doctor: ‘Edge Of Destruction’. Not got a lot of William Hartnell, but really enjoyed this early two parter. Avoid ‘The Gunfighters’ at all costs – awful.

Second Doctor: Of the few I’ve actually seen, I’d probably say ‘The Invasion’. The animated episodes work really well.

Third Doctor: Not a big Pertwee fan, but ‘Carnival of Monsters’ isn’t bad.

Fourth Doctor: Already suggested ‘Pyramids of Mars’ (My first Classic Who DVD purchase), but aside from the obvious classics (‘Genesis…’ and ‘Talons…’), ‘The Ark in Space’ is good. And so is ‘Horror of Fang Rock’. Oh, there’s just too many.

Fifth Doctor: ‘…Androzani”s already gone, so I’ll go for ‘Earthshock’, despite Beryl Reid.

Sixth Doctor: ‘Vengeance On Varos’. A great baddie in Sil, and originally broadcast on my 6th birthday.

Seventh Doctor: This is most difficult. I remember watching Sylvester McCoy and Sophie Aldred as a kid more than anything else, but don’t have any specific memories of episodes. Of the stories currently available on DVD, ‘Ghost Light’ is a bit confusing, and ‘The Curse of Fenric’ isn’t as good as others make out. As ‘Remembrance…’ has gone, I’ll go for ‘Survival’. Though I’m looking forward to ‘Battlefield’ coming out at the end of the month…

Well that’s my one (*ahem*) story per Doctor…

    >> I loved Moss?s ?Happy Place? being signalled by the Windows startup tone

I think that?s the sound of his brain rebooting?

Yeah, rewatched this last night, realised I’d got it wrong, and my only thought was ‘the folks on the G&T forums will be mocking me…’

And Matt Berry’s name WAS missing. Right about that.

Agreed. I’m sure I’ve seen the ‘old woman stole my jacket’ isea somewhere else, as unlikely as that sounds.

However, I loved Moss’s ‘Happy Place’ being signalled by the Windows startup tone. And, of course, you can’t beat a good blow job gag for a visual woofer.

Also, Matt Berry’s name was added to the opening titles this series, and he wasn’t even in it last week. He was back in it last night, and – though I may be mistaken – his name was omitted completely! Wassalltharrabout?

The TVM is classed as a regular series appearance. Now go and listen to the McGann audios.

What’s regular about one TV movie? I’m not saying it’s not canon, just not part of a regular weekly season.

Oh, and the audio’s are fine. I missed this week’s but last weeks was great.

I agree with Symes, I’d’ve liked a crossover/transition period with The Moff’s first series. Still, between his first and final appearances as the Doctor, it’s over four and a half years, just ahead of Jon Pertwee, second only to Tom Baker.

I want an unknown for the role. I’m not really keen on Paterson Joseph – he’s okay, I suppose, but…no. If anyone, Julian Rhind-Tutt is my favourite, while my sister adores Russell Tovey. But dear God, please not Jimmy fucking Nesbitt.

Major Spoiler from the BBC press office for those who haven’t read it anywhere else (although we all knew about most of what’s happening):

    4.12: The Stolen Earth

Earth’s greatest heroes assemble in a time of dire need, in tonight’s penultimate episode in this series of Russell T Davies’s Bafta Award-winning time-travelling drama. But can the Doctor’s secret army defeat the might of the new Dalek Empire?

With battles on the streets and in the skies, the Doctor and Donna must brave the Shadow Proclamation to find out the truth. However, a fearsome old enemy waits in the shadows…

    Wonder who that could be?

    Okay, five points on this…

    1. He was robbed.

    2. Why didn’t they put him in the Red kitchen?

    3. Why didn’t they show a clip from Red Dwarf (Ainsley as Kinatowowi) or Can’t Smeg Won’t Smeg?

    4. They talked to Nigel Planer a lot longer/often than Bobby.

    5. Ainsley’s a twat.

    That is all.

I enjoyed Saturday’s episode. Loved the nod to the Brig (or ‘Sir Alistair’, to give him his proper title), the gas-mask/’are you my mummy?’ gag, flash of Rose, mention of Jack, return of Martha… a good story.

Next week’s looks interesting, although the ‘Hello Dad’ line would have perhaps had more impact had the Doctor not just said “She’s my daughter”…

Not getting much of a glow from Martha, sadly. I think I?ve ended up disappointed in the actress

Don’t you let my dad hear you say that, he adores Freema Agyeman. Mind you, he never goes anywhere near a computer, so I think you’re probably pretty safe.

Awww, I liked Daleks in Manhattan. My favouritest Dalek story of the new series so far.

I, on the other hand, wasn’t so keen. A fine example of the overuse of the Daleks in new Who.

Anyway, to this week – miles better than last week(However, I am saddened that my two younger brothers, Chris (13 – he had a drawing of K9 on Totally Doctor Who a couple of years ago and won a mug!) and Tom (18) have lost interest in the show. Mind you, I do tend to shove Doctor Who – in all it’s glorious forms – down their throats a bit. I was sat watching Horror of Fang Rock the other day, much to their chagrin..). The Sontarans look great, and generally I thought the gags – the naff explosion, and Donna’s ‘I’m going home’ riff – worked well, although the flashbacks during Donna’s overlong stroll up the road were just superfluous to events, and dragged. The second part’s been nicely set up, though, and I’m looking forward to next week.

Actually, somewhat unusually for me, I found this episode rather uninteresting (I wasn’t gripped by Gridlock last year either, but I put that down to having a large epileptic fit that afternoon).
It was alright, but that was all. Nothing too exciting – though I agree about the death of the PR girl – she deserved it!

Sorry, though. Overall, it didn’t really do anything for me. The CG brain was like the Nestene Conciousness (ie not very good), and the moral of the story – Slavery is bad! Don’t do it! – was written all over the episode in a big black indelible pen.

(And I said that about the similarity between the Ood and Zoidberg two years ago. Nyeh. :-P)

My sister bought the soundtrack this week and has played non-stop. It’s actually really good, and the best part is the fact yo can skip past her stupid fucking voiceover, which has it’s own listing, seperate from the theme toon.
