I don’t think the actors (outside of maybe Craig) really care about the storylines.

I imagine Robert was quite invested in Beyond A Joke.

    Well, I say that.

I’d like to stay at the Crowne Plaza, but it’s too expensive, especially with what I’ve forked out for the convention itself – a lot more than I’d’ve liked, or than I’d normally pay for anything, but FOMO got in the way and put my credit card into action this evening, getting a Bronze pass. Got a room at St James’ Hotel instead, 15-20 mins walk away from the convention.
Being able to stay up late in the hotel bar having a drink or three, without having to worry about making a late journey somewhere else is always a plus.

Watched The End on (U&) Gold last night as their Red Dwarf Summer began (the crew ‘passport’ bumpers are nice, although Rimmer is listed as Felis Sapien.)

Was watching with my sister, who had to tell me to stop speaking the entire script in sync with the screen.

CATS IN THE RED (affectionately known as THE ONE WHERE EVERYONE IS CAT)
The crew travels to an alternate universe in which Red Dwarf is inhabited by Felis sapiens versions of Lister and Rimmer, a Kryten mechanoid with fangs and pointy ears, and Human. (Human has Duane Dibbley’s appearance but the personality of Mr Rat.)

    CAT’S IN THE RED
After Cat gets into debt, the crew tries to help him with his financial problems.

    CAT’S IN THE FED
Sequel to the above, in which Cat gets a job at the US central bank.

    CAT’S IN THE BED
Cat refuses to get up in the morning.

    CAT’S IN THE WED
    Cat gets married.

    CAT’S IN THE LED
Cat joins a band with Plant and Page.

    CAT’S IN THE SHED

    Cat does some D.I Y.

If Simon Pegg ever appeared in Red Dwarf, he’d have done Red Dwarf, Doctor Who, Star Trek and Star Wars.

Of course, if Nick Frost ever did RD, he’d have done Red Dwarf, Doctor Who *and* Hyperdrive, something so far only achieved by The Actor Kevin Eldon.

Yes, because it says “official” so obviously it must be official.

    Has anyone just asked Doug?

I guess it makes sense that GNP would have to step in if the fan club aren’t going to do it.

    Hm.

it says Nottingham too, which was, of course, home to the last couple of DJs. If this is, indeed, official, then it seems like they want to try to keep some kind of continuity.

Be nice if prices keep around the same kind of continuity,  as well.

Certainly keep an eye on it.

Their idea that a work of fiction will lead into a documentary is stupid, though.

has the Bill Bailey we know ever commented on sharing a real name with Axl Rose?

Except our Bill Bailey’s real name isn’t Bill Bailey.

I’ve been trying for ages (unsuccessfully, obviously) to think of a comedian whose real first name is Luke to make up what’d be a great Only Connect question.

It’d be Harry Hill, Bill Bailey, [x] and, pushing it, Romesh Ranganathan.

The problem being the positioning of the answers – they’re supposed to get easier, and the first is probably the easiest, the third obviously the hardest. The fourth stretching it to fit the answer.

I’d just like to share the theory I put forward as a joke yesterday that Billie is, in fact, playing herself.
I thought of it as a ridiculous joke, the very idea of RTD doing such a thing would piss fandom off beyond belief, but the more I think about the utter batshit-ness of it, combined with the fact that Billie has no given character name, the more I actually think that it’s exactly the sort of thing Rusty would do.

Not only is Danny much more precise with his line deliveries, but the Cat is actually the Cat again, with the appropriate character quirks, selfishness and creativity that died out after series 2.

From Series VI, I think Cat became less cool and more stupid, which was frustrating. So I agree, in that I think the ‘modern’ (such as it is) Dave era has definitely brought back the sense of style and cool that he lost in the last couple of Beeb series. And we all know how well Danny does cool.
I sounded a bit too nerdy there. Sorry.
    Pissflaps.

You know, I think it’s my lack of interest in Sonic the Hedgehog, combined with my general aging curmudgeonliness that’s seeing me engage less than I used to. I just don’t understand what you young people are on about.

Yes, Sonic is over 30 years old, isn’t he? Oh, bollocks to it. I’m going for a lie down.

It’s still not working for me. Yawnarama City. I’ll figure it out.
Utterly brilliant to know they’re still going.

If you’re getting the same 404 screen I got when I followed the link in your quoted text the first time, the drop down menu was still accessible. Try clicking on News or Home on there if you’re still having trouble.
The link that Ian shared has worked fine, though. Strange, huh?

I knew nothing about it until I received it as a birthday present from my brother this week. Seems an interesting read, been a long time since I’ve read The Making of Red Dwarf. I once took that book and got it signed by Craig Charles when he was promoting his ‘Live on Earth’ stand-up video. I got that and a free LoE promotional poster signed at the event. Didn’t buy the video.

When they’d finished watching the episode, I had to turn it off after about five minutes or so. Paula’s moaning about the non-resolution of s8 was just getting too much for me. Maybe I’ll go back for the end of the vid at some point.

I haven’t watched his new one, Douglas Is Cancelled, yet – anyone checked that out?

I really want to love it, but I merely like it. Certainly not bingable. It’s reasonable enough, but nothing spectacular.

How many times did they turn Kylie back on? Seemed to me like they did it just *once* too often.
    Moan over.

Actually,  no, moan not over. Thought the episode was okay, yet for some reason, to me it seemed both full of stuff *and* I found myself looking at the clock a couple of times, finding time seeming to drag. Beats me.

Also: the blue bird alien was best. Looked great, and it’s nice to see what Larry’s been up to since Elon stuck his nose in.

Petition to have him rename his channel to LlewTube

Pretty sure he did do online stuff using ‘LlewTube’ years ago, actually.
Someone in the live chat this afternoon questioned why they’d never used ‘Ed Bye’ as a synonym for cheerio. Robert thought it was a great idea, and that it had never occurred to him before.

You all know that Red Dwarf is my favourite… thing. Like, completely. My life without Red Dwarf in it almost doesn’t bear thinking about.

But as far as sitcoms go, I think Spaced might actually be my favourite. 25 years, and I’ve rewatched it over and over, so many times. Never gets boring. And even though I’m five years or so younger than Tim, Daisy et al, was never really into that type of music during the 90s, or had that type of lifestyle, I just always felt so comfortable with the show. I bought the soundtrack, and still think I’m cool for liking the modern music before realising it’s 25 years old. And The Staunton Lick still always brings a lump to my throat.

Of course, one of the only things that upsets me more is the US pilot.

For some reason, I’ve not been as excited about the upcoming season as I really want to be. Maybe it’s just because I didn’t really think the Christmas special was anywhere near the highs of the 60th Specials, but I’m not even reading DWM the same as I normally do – the last couple of months, its been a few pages, then the rest has had a cursory glance and left largely unread.

Didn’t mind about the simultaneous premiere as it was announced, but then the realisation that everyone else was going to be able to watch at a comfortable afternoon/evening time hit me, and that we were going to lose the immediacy of everyone Tweeting about the same thing at the same (reasonable) time that the live TV premieres I rushed home from work for back in October always brought.

So given all that, I’ve got ti say that, for me, the return of Moffat us actually the most exciting news Who-wise for quite a little while, something I’m properly looking forward to. And another great writer that poor Jodie missed out on.
