Tell us the truth, BC: You’re Sheldon Cooper’s mother, aren’t you? You can trust us. It’s why you like Rimmer; he’s a git too. :-D

    Yeah, no – yeah, no.

(As a side note, my 29-year-old sister as a teenager picked up one of her more annoying speech habits from a rerun of Balance of Power – Rimmer’s taunting Lister with “Yeeeeeeeeaaaa- No.” I’m betting Rob wrote that bit as an homage to Doug … or Chris adlibbed it since Rob and Doug spent so much time stealing from THEIR personal habits. :-P )

Are you people kidding me?? Sixty-three degrees WINTER? I was out for my morning walk yesterday at 7 am when it was 26 F and I was chirpy because the wind wasn’t blowing to push it down in the teens. Was positively balmy. :-P

“It’s A Funny Old Game” – Joe Klump, who should’ve never been allowed anywhere near a ghostwriter …

(I’ve been re-listening as recently as late last week, in fact. My favorite bit is Cat’s “YOOHOO!!” scream upon spotting the Nova 5, as I try to imagine Chris’s face and movements while doing it.)

I have versions of all 4 books that are each several hours long; I didn’t think they were abridged. I’ll have to listen to Backwards again for the Gunmen bit to see if it’s there. (I do remember having to hear about tired Spanners’ erection in Bongo’s line of sight and thinking *Well, I like me some slash, but this is a bit detailed …*)

The audio IWCD is kind of Christmasy since I listen to it driving hours to and from Dad’s to visit this time of year. Also, Bedford Falls. Or BTL audio for the same reason (juggernaut!).

Are there particular sights to see or things you locals would recommend to an out-of-country-er to do around Birmingham after the convention, to maximize the money they’ve spent to get there without a great deal more debt to the trip? :-D

My sister has the Tongue-Tied video/making of/whatever on the VHS tape, and she has Craig’s standup on VHS too, from his time after prison, she says. (I’m not brave enough to watch that one.)

Glad to see so much Muppet Babies love all over this thread. I was pretty well in junior high or high school when that was on, I believe, but I had a little sister who liked watching, and it was fun for me, as well. That show had a good deal of adult humor that flew over the heads of the little ones. :-)

On another note, I’ll just say this is one of the very few websites featuring the phrase “multiple Rimmers” that I’m allowed to pull up here at work.

Come to think of it, this probably gets written eventually in every fandom, but there were a couple of great old (and by old, I mean 20 years ago or so) fanfics in Trek where this very thing happened to the main few leads in both TOS and TNG. As I recall, the only switch that really didn’t make that much difference in their lives was Commander Riker/Jonathan Frakes. :-D

(Also, I’d lay money Chris would be the first to figure out the controls and doohickeys on the Dwarf. Which would be far more hilarious if only a couple of the actors were switched around and half the crew were left wondering how the hell Rimmer got competent all of a sudden.)

Resurgence in interest in a fandom always brings out the rabble-rousers; I’ve seen this almost more times than I can list out. I can only guess it’s because like the eye of Sauron on the Ring, their attention gets pulled away from whatever small animal they’re terrorizing at the moment to new and shiny episodes, movies, what-have-you.

And then is sent back to the future (HA I WORKED IT IN THERE) because no big change stays permanent on the Dwarf, after all.

“Sirs! They’re still not using videocassette tapes again yet in 2012! And the global economy is in a massive tank because of all those lost discs, I’m certain!”

I don’t know, it was entertaining to watch the fuel sort of gradually petering out over a matter of hours. “You see what rubbish this place is?” “Yeah, total assholes! Let’s stay and keep using it for our conversation about how unfair it is that we can’t use it for slagging off about it!” “I agree, it’s horrible! Oh look, I just posted something else about how bad it is here!” “Me too! Look how we’re being oppressed! Oh, wait, that wasn’t!” “What’s this place about, again?”

Mabel, if you do set a room with a guy and my roommate doesn’t pan out for some reason and you’d rather stay with another woman, that offer is open. That is, of course, assuming I can go (which I’m planning to, but it’s not just right up the road and stuff can happen between now and then).

Mabel, I am told there are not to be three people in a room. I don’t know if this means “no, there’s really not room for a third adult” or, as we say in the good old USA, “as long as the place doesn’t burn down in the middle of the night leaving us an adult corpse we don’t have on record, or you don’t break a bone and sue us, we can look the other way.” Not being British or familiar at all with Birmingham, I simply can’t say which. :-(
