May 17, 2026 at 8:36 pm in reply to: Your Red Dwarf Art #320529 MoonlightParticipant I like these but the Series IV/V/VI text is visibly off-center and it’s giving me a brain aneurysm. May 17, 2026 at 8:33 pm in reply to: Your Unpopular Red Dwarf Opinions #320528 MoonlightParticipant Let’s just commit to reversing the premise of the thread now. Bodyswap. What a good episode, huh? Green piss. Classic. Remember that bit where the bomb is actually a milkshake? May 17, 2026 at 8:30 pm in reply to: Ace Rimmer – What A Bastard #320527 MoonlightParticipant Ace is just rubbing it in how useless he thinks Rimmer is by asking to perform a task he is physically incapable of and then mocking him for it. That said, between this and the original ending I think Rob and Doug might’ve just forgotten Rimmer is a hologram while writing this episode. May 17, 2026 at 8:23 pm in reply to: Your Unpopular Red Dwarf Opinions #320521 MoonlightParticipant Did you think the monkeys were the wedding guests? No, just that I watch Tikka quite infrequently as an adult and every time I heard that line I got distracted by how overwritten of a simile it is and then ignored it. I also get weirded out by Chris’s odd delivery of “That was about as SMOOOOOOTH…as Egyptian whisky.” May 17, 2026 at 8:12 pm in reply to: Personal projects #320517 MoonlightParticipant I bought the N64 cart recently. I ended up buying myself an N64 as an early Christmas present last year given multiple beloved childhood games of mine were ported from it, and how it – and the Zeldas, in particular – were omnipresent for me in the early 2000s as “those games you only get to play at a friend’s house”. It’s definitely the console I have the most nostalgia for that I never actually owned. Anyway, I found a new minigame in Rayman 2. At the beginning of The Bayou (level 4) if you immediately turn to the left there’s another portal off to the side that takes you to a race, and it’s an actual platforming race and not that dogshit button mashing bonus level. I’d never seen that before in 25 years and I still need to check if it’s actually on the Dreamcast version and I just never once thought to look to the side of that level’s opening moment. I live for these moments when I find something completely new in a game I grew up with that I think I know back to front. On that note, I still have literally no fucking idea how to access the multiplayer mode on the Dreamcast port but it sure is pictured on the back of the jewel case. May 17, 2026 at 8:03 pm in reply to: Your Unpopular Red Dwarf Opinions #320512 MoonlightParticipant Well, yes, it’s interesting the difference between say, “… less brains than a mollusc.” and “… less brains than a Macaque Rhesus monkey after the first course of a Vietnamese wedding banquet.” I think I just got that joke for the first time seeing it in text. May 17, 2026 at 7:58 am in reply to: Your Unpopular Red Dwarf Opinions #320451 MoonlightParticipant I like the Salt Lake City joke. Utah is full of Mormons. May 17, 2026 at 2:37 am in reply to: Your Unpopular Red Dwarf Opinions #320440 MoonlightParticipant I would say it’s a slightly underrated episode I’ve been saying that for years. It’s the point at which VII actually starts to kind of work on its own merits. May 16, 2026 at 8:35 pm in reply to: Personal projects #320419 MoonlightParticipant I will die on the hill that the definitive version of Rayman 2 is the Dreamcast port. I think I generally don’t have too much of a problem with making Hollister a sillier character if he’s going to be around full-time, I just don’t think VIII especially knew how to use him. But there’s absolutely comedy in the idea of him being the only competent one if you were to stick to a more 1/2 characterization. May 14, 2026 at 7:58 pm in reply to: Mundane observation dome #320296 MoonlightParticipant I still maintain that if Red Dwarf ever decided to take another swing-for-the-fences format shift like the old days, I’d love to see Hollister brought back as part of the main cast as long as fat jokes aren’t 70% of his material. Even though the actual writing lets him down, Mac’s performance is easily the best part of Series VIII. He is also just outrageously funny any time he’s interviewed about the show. I guessed Cassandra. May 12, 2026 at 10:46 pm in reply to: Your Unpopular Red Dwarf Opinions #320232 MoonlightParticipant I’m always arguing that Series 2 has as much Series III in it as Series 1 but it’s just not as obvious when III looks totally different. May 12, 2026 at 8:02 pm in reply to: Misheard lines #320220 MoonlightParticipant Nothing’s worse for your comprehension of a show’s dialogue than having repeatedly watched it since you were a kid and some of those kid misunderstandings slipping through the cracks until you suddenly realize decades later. May 12, 2026 at 6:07 am in reply to: Smugle or Strugle? – Dispatches From Smegle #320156 MoonlightParticipant I figured out the series on the third reveal and had a lucky guess on the episode. The Remastered ship just feels really generic if you ignore the front section. It looks like the front of Red Dwarf slapped onto something you’d build in the ship creator in Galactic Civilizations 2. The Dave ship has (mostly) the same details but the front section is so disproportionate after it was shortened. The design would never look like that if they weren’t cutting an existing model in half and I kind of love it for that. (Also the Series V ship there isn’t the same model as the original but let’s not get pedantic.) May 10, 2026 at 3:32 am in reply to: Smugle or Strugle? – Dispatches From Smegle #320014 MoonlightParticipant #RedDwarf #Smegle 10/05/2026 Complete and utter total absolute failure. I could not for the life of me remember where there’s a bowl of soup in the show and the most obvious possible clue was always hidden. It’s a clever message on how dogshit this comment was. May 9, 2026 at 8:15 am in reply to: Smugle or Strugle? – Dispatches From Smegle #319994 MoonlightParticipant I spent the whole time thinking “What the fuck scene has this much orange?!” until more details were revealed. May 9, 2026 at 8:05 am in reply to: Your Red Dwarf Art #319992 MoonlightParticipant I feel like there is no point in the show beyond IV where they wouldn’t just wander into the DNA ship on Starbug. May 9, 2026 at 8:03 am in reply to: Smugle or Strugle? – Dispatches From Smegle #319991 MoonlightParticipant Picking this episode feels like a scam to out its apologists, who will recognize it immediately. May 9, 2026 at 7:58 am in reply to: Your Unpopular Red Dwarf Opinions #319988 MoonlightParticipant Body (But Mostly Eyebrow) Snatcher May 9, 2026 at 5:24 am in reply to: Red Dwarf on YouTube #319982 MoonlightParticipant I need more incentive to watch something that’s as long as a TV episode over actual TV episodes. I would have skimmed the illustrated blog version. The words of a man who’s never sat through an entire 8 hour video about a show he never watched. The pop culture that “always was” vs. something like Pokemon which I was there firsthand for. Author Replies Viewing 50 replies - 101 through 150 (of 3,688 total) 1 2 3 4 … 72 73 74
