This is a brilliant discovery. Thank you for sharing.

Also, the ‘giraffe called Gerald’ scene was shot during the recording of Cured, so presumably there is an alternate version of that scene somewhere with the Cat wearing a different costume.

There was a getaway scene in Twentica, shot like a black and white 1940s noir, complete with wobbly backdrop and shaky steering wheel acting. I loved it at the recording and asked Doug about it once. He said it was taken out because it was too ‘pony.’

I only figured out the other day that the line ‘natural yoghurt eaters’ means ‘people who eat natural yoghurt,’ and not, as I thought, ‘people who are predisposed to eating yoghurt.’ I always thought that was a weird joke.

Forget all this Frank stuff, Hollister and Lister both have ‘Lister’ in their name.

Backwards is better than Last Human.

Danny John-Jules is the most consistent performer and the best thing about the Dave era.

    Continuity does matter

Mr Rat is probably the show’s funniest moment full stop

Hard light made Rimmer less interesting.

    OUSHITANDPISSOROS

When Lister is spitting on Kryten’s wrist he finds this weird lump on his tongue that teleports them to Stockport. Then he makes this massive vat of custard full of shit and piss and tries to make Rimmer drink it but he won’t. Kryten doesn’t really know what’s going on but makes a best guess and gets them home. Once they’re back they end up promoting Rimmer because they feel bad about trying to make him eat shit and piss. Then they FINALLY let Warden Knot out of stasis so he can join the crew properly at last.

    OURIKMAYALLOUROS

    OUROBALLHOURS

In a fascinating deconstruction of sitcom throughout the ages, the crew encounter a time-based convenience that makes all subsequent jokes sound like they were from the 1970s. Kryten gets into football and the Cat shits on one of Rimmer’s reports again.

I think I caught Out of Time on original broadcast, and possibly Justice. I remember being hugely excited when Philip Bunting told me about the 94 repeat run and hugely disappointed when Out of Time didn’t have a part 2. I also cried to my mum because I didn’t get to see Psirens.

I can only think of two full scenes that were present on the recording night but not in the final assembly. The other though, if I remember correctly, was very plot specific. But then again, it was ages ago so I could have just forgotten loads.

It was the set report gag that I’m referring to yeah.

As for Officer Rimmer, I’m not 100% certain but I now think the scene was reshot and not recorded on the night for this episode. I could be wrong here though.

Loved it. Really strong episode. And for anyone that was at the recording, they cut that stinker of an old joke so good news all round. Good fun Q&A too.

Completed it. Best episode, best game update. Still completely clueless as to how I managed to get that grate open though. Seemed random.

Literally no idea how to open the grate. It was opening and closing before I could get to it earlier but now it remains shut even though I’m seemingly repeating the same action. I’m sure I’m missing something but no clue what that could be.

XI for me all the way. Loved it and sorry it’s over. Not a perfect series by any stretch but funny, ambitious and packed with ideas. There are a few niggling things that bug me and doubtless always will but alongside Trojan, it’s the best of the Dave era. And Officer Rimmer is probably in my top 36; worth it for that alone.

Enjoying this game and nice to see the feedback is being taken on board. If I was to make a comment it would be to say a scoring description might be useful for each level. Are scores based on time taken to complete the level, damage taken, a combination of the two or something else entirely? Also, I can’t find a way to replay the introductory video. Is there a way to do so, and if not, could that be incorporated?

Finished the first set of levels. Pretty hard. Quite nice though. Kind of massacres the Twentica script.

SEB: I’d be interested to know which he means! If it’s the one I think it is, then it’s my favourite of the series, but I wouldn’t necessarily have had it as the opener.

It is indeed the one you said was your favourite last week.

Just left let the Manchester screening. Titbits of note from the Q and A (sorry if any of these have been covered elsewhere):

Sets from X were water damaged and had to be rebuilt for XI.
Twentica was selected as the opener over Doug’s preferred episode as the other episode looks like it has a small budget. He gave the episode number; is it spoilery of me to say?
“We rebooted on 10. It’s the original Rimmer.” I think he’s mistaken but that’s what he said.
He seemed pretty certain about both 13 and 14 and that he’d take a rain check after that.

    First series – Brilliant
Second series – Flashes of brilliance when Lynch directs. Unfortunately this mostly serves as a reminder of how good this series could have been if he had had a greater involvement.
Fire Walk With Me – The most underrated of all Lynch’s films. Utterly stunning

To paraphrase, well worth watching. Top programme, but dont get too excited about the 2nd series

Oh wow. I was at the Wolves gig. I travelled from Manchester because they werent playing round here this year and Im gonna make the trip there every year they play there now. Brilliant gig. Best I’ve ever seen them and I think thats about the 7th or 8th time I have.

Richey – I notice you post over on Forever Delayed. Would you be able to let me know whats in the Sound and Vision section. You know, that horrible elitist bit that they dont let you look at unless you dedicate your life to FD.

Favourite Manic’s fan story No1. Karl goes to watch them play in Wales and writes ‘For Ryhl’ on his arm. Genius. Favourite Manic’s fan story no2. My mate does the same thing in Manchester but his eyeliner pen runs out halfway through ‘For Real’ making him pro-Religious Education.

Wow, so much hate in this thread. I too find it sad that Norman’s posted these things, however, he might have legitimate reasons for his grievances. I think its awful to see such nasty character assassinations about him when people aren’t in possession of all the facts.
