Yeah, I looked at the article on here (dead) and the link to the Dave page (dead). I need to find it, as I’ve commissioned a friend to paint the design on my jacket and she needs some references.

Surely this is the baddies plot in the 1974 Doctor Who serial ‘Invasion of the Dinosaurs’?

And the basic premise of 2000ad’s ‘Flesh!’.

I don’t want to be on the first ship out, facing all those unknown dangers. When we’ve properlly subjugated those scary monsters by introducing them to alcohol, religion or simply enslaving them, then I’ll go.

Big Finish Productions do a range of ‘Sapphire & Steel’ audio adventures. They are set sometime after their last TV adventure and Sapphire and Steel have been ‘reborn’ into new incarnations, in order to explain why they now look and sound like David Warner and Susannah Harker.

    After a bit of thought:

The End – Parallel Universe: Year One
Backwards – The Last Day: Year Two
Camille – Back to Reality: Year Three
Psirens – Tikka to Ride: Year Four
Stoke Me a Clipper – Pete: Year Five
    Only the Good…: Year Six
    Back to Earth: Year Fifteen

This is based on Rimmer’s comment of being in effective command of Red Dwarf for nearly four years in ‘Holoship’, Lister turning 28 around ‘Tikka to Ride’ and there being a twelve month gap between ‘Pete (Part 2)’ and ‘Only the Good…’, seeing as Hollister has spent a year in the Hole to get away from Rimmer and Lister, plus they’ve been in prison long enough to earn parole.

Additional: I reckon it’s the first anniversay of Rimmer’s death in ‘Thanks for the Memory’ due to there being only one candle on the cake Lister baked for Rimmer.

Possibly, we don’t know. Holly might have released Lister EXACTLY three million years to the date of the accident.

With the timeline of series I, I put it that the events of ‘The End’ up until ‘Thanks for the Memory’ take place over the period of one year, if they’re counting Rimmer’s Death Day as being the day Lister was revived from stasis.

Also, a year or so must logically pass between ‘Parallel Universe’ and ‘Backwards’ (to accomodate Lister’s pregnancy and the rebuild of Kryten) and Lister states that ‘D.N.A.’ takes place exactly one year after the events of ‘Polymorph’.

I’ve tried working out a Red Dwarf timeline of sorts, will post it eventually. Or not.

Also, ‘Blue’ works better if you watch it before ‘Duct Soup’.

In ‘Blue’ it is clear that Kochanski has only been on the ship a short time – she is still looking for a way back to her Dave and Kryten has yet to inform her of his ship rules.
By ‘Duct Soup’ enough time has passed for her to work out a detailed time table of the noises the pipes next to her bed make and for the crew to have raided a derelict in order for Lister to find the dress and makeup for Kochanski.

I wonder if anyone else was mentioned in the Cat Bible. Perhaps Rimmer has become their figure of Satan (Lister is their god, and back in the days of Frankenstein Rimmer was pretty much Lister’s adversary).

I can only echo the comments above. Series 1, like all first seasons, has a bit of trouble finding its feet. On the one hand you have wonderful stories like ‘Small Worlds’, ‘Out of Time’ and ‘Captain Jack Harkness’, but then you get stories that would only seem adult to pubescent boys. I.e. ‘Day One’ has a monster that is powered by sex and ‘Cyberwoman’ has a cyberwoman complete with metal brassiere and three-inch steel heels.
By the time Series 2 and ‘Children of Earth’ came around, Torchwood had found its feet and has been consistantly good ever since.

I’d like to see Hattie back as Holly. I know it’s a bit late now, but it’d be nice to readdress the balance and give her the exposition gobbledegook so Kryten can get on with the hoovering.

I thought a lot of the deleted scenes from ‘Holoship’ were mainly model shots. It’s a shame we didn’t see more of the Enlightenment as it was a very nice looking model. Although the deleted shot of it unfolding looked terrible.

Also, can someone answer why Rimmer is teleported directly into Nirvannah’s quarters instead of a teleport bay or something? Though I don’t suppose a teleport bay would have a pitcher of wine around though to demonstrate the point of Rimmer having the ability to touch and taste.

    Being Mickey Smith –

CONS: Are treated like shit by stupid, selfish girlfriend. Picked on by wheelie bins.

PROS: Will end up as a cool Kyle Reese style resistance fighter, only with a bigger gun.

Boom Town does end though with Mickey and Rose’s relationship problems still hanging in the air. Rose runs off to the Doctor instead of Mickey and when she comes back looking for him he mearly watches her from afar then leaves silently, presumably back to London.

But all this is ignored to an extent when he comes running back to her in ‘The Parting of the Ways’.

If it helps, the novels set Red Dwarf’s disappearence in 2181 I believe.

Have they ever shown Darren and Heather even interacting before? I can’t think of anytimes when the two characters would have crossed paths. Darren mainly has storylines with the Foxes wheras Heather is usually in storylines with Minty or the Mitchell clan.

I think it’d be fun if the Doctor bumped into Amy for the first time in a queue at B&Q, picking up some MDF and blue paint to rebuild the TARDIS.

I wonder if he’d try and take advantage of the over 60’s discount.

I believe on the commentary for the series 2 DVD, Pegg and Stevenson mention how they did filmed the Matrix parody before spoofing the film became popular, so when it was released other shows had already done it and they just looked like they were following the crowd.

Damn good movie and TV series though. John Simm’s cameo was good in the first episode (was he a household name by this point? It was about 2000/2001 they filmed series 2 so he’d done ‘Human Traffic’ and ‘Clocking Off’ and was just about to appear in ’24 Hour Party People’)

I assume that too Karl, but with all the rumours flying around about the TARDIS being destroyed and rebuilt/regrown by the Doctor does make me think we’ll get an excuse for the change in the TARDIS prop. I’m not bothered one way or another though.

Interestingly, the photo of the new TARDIS interior is a closeup of an image that includes the TARDIS Police Box shell itself.

What’s interesting specifically is that the prop they used for that scene is the old one from the Eccleston/Tennant Era and not the new prop seen in the first location images featuring the 11th Doctor and Amy. This to me implies that either the 10th Doctor recieves a new Control Room set as a Christmas prezzie, or the 11th Doctor alters the interior before altering the outer shell of the machine itself.

I say buy ‘The Invasion’. ‘The War Games’ is good, but towards the middle and end it does start to feel a little bit padded out. Episodes 9 & 10 at the end are absolute belters though.
