We all know that the definitive adaptation of Sherlock Holmes is the animated ‘Sherlock Holmes in the 22nd Century’.

Sherlock Holmes is revived and returned to his youth by the constabulary of New London in order to help them capture a clone of Professor Moriarty. The culture shocked Holmes is joined by the sassy, ass-kicking Inspector Beth Lestrade – a descendant of the original Lestrade – and her robot, who after reading the journals of the late Dr. Watson, takes on the name, mannerisms, personality and even face of Holmes’ former assistant.

Lawrence Miles is just bitter because when ‘Doctor Who’ returned to television he was no longer an important name in ‘Doctor Who’. Add to this, he’s got a one-sided rivalry with Steven Moffat, who I’m fairly certain doesn’t even remember him. Apparently they shared a table with a few other people at a fan meetup in London, and Moffatt sneered and turned his nose up at Miles when the latter showed off that he’d just bought ‘Bagpuss’ on DVD. To this day, Miles considers him his nemesis. His bitterness towards the current incarnation of the show is further fueled by the fact he fully expected the BBC to knock at his door, asking him to run the show, even though he has no experience working in television.

A lot of people in Doctor Who Fandom tend to blow smoke up his arse, but he is pretty much a massive cunt.

There are some nice bits in ‘Guest House Paradiso’. I do quite like the bit at the start where Richey tries to pin a badge to his lapel and just ends up sticking it through his breast.

I really, really loved ‘Back to Earth’. But I still don’t understand how ‘Blade Runner’ was its inspiration? Doug and Rob always used to say they were inspired by the films ‘Alien’ and ‘Dark Star’.

My only problem with the brig is where it is on the ship. It’s all very well saying it’s on a single floor, but that massive tower that is Lister and Rimmer’s cell block is bloody massive and easily a mile tall.

I don’t think it’ll take you all that long. I’m no Usain Bolt, but I walk five miles into work every day and it takes about 45 minutes to an hour. It should probably take you about half what you expect.

I’ve found that I’ve started to loose weight after eliminating dairy from my diet. I’ve also elected to stop taking the bus to work and just walk the 4 or 5 miles there everyday and then the same in the evening. Takes me about an hour and a half either way and tires me out on the way home due to a lot of it being up hill.

In Queeg, I always heard Deganwy as “on Ganymede” and thought it pretty far out that Lister and his school would go for a camping trip on one of the moons of Jupiter. To be fair, Deganwy is in North Wales and is just as inhospitable and lifeless as Ganymede.

You can kinda rationalise away Lister’s nonchalance as his coping mechanism for such a trauma. Beside, Lister isn’t really the sort of person to dwell and always find the good in every situation – he’s still alive, he still has his plan and he still has his cat.

Matthew Marsh is ridiculously over the top with that hand jive he’s got going on. It’s almost as if he’s not taking it seriously.

There’s some good bleak comedy to be had from Lister realising that he’s getting old and that his eventual death (even though he knows he makes it to 140 and suffocates taking off a bra) means the end of the Human race.

Kryten does point out in ‘Backwards’ that, thanks to time travel, Lister is physically 15 but mentally 107.

I’ve always liked the theory that the Double-Double Lister and Rimmer from ‘Stasis Leak’ were younger versions of the corrupt Lister and Rimmer we see in ‘Out of Time’. I figured that Kochanski too had been corrupted by her hedonistic time travel and had dumped Lister and left after he was reduced to a brain in a jar, being now too shallow to date him.
