This is astounding, and Darrell’s welcome to stay. The rest of you; buck your ideas up.

Ben; I believe it was actually our DVD with recreations of old ITV start-ups, but we’ve both watched Ceefax for fun before.

Cheri just left without me being able to say goodbye. She was a bit abrasive, although not as abrasive as Elise, one of Rutland’s 3 (three!) monkeys, who’s all over the place emotionally. She sends me nice, fragile-sounding letters, then moans at me for not being around when I meet her! Animals, eh?

Nana, one of the other monkeys, is always lovely, however. She also bows respectfully when you leave her home, which is adorable.

I’m not sure that really has an effect; I had a clumsy day recently without having moved anything in my room.

In happier news, I can now get take-away coffee from my town’s cafe. The look of happiness on my face every time I took a swig made all the bell-gathering worth it.

The bees are just a bit annoying; it’s getting bitten/stung by a tarantula or scorpion that upsets me! My code is 0361-6978-1169. Rutland has a campsite and we’re saving up for a cafe. HOW EXCITING.

I still have my Atari ST, plus quite a few games. I really ought to give it to a good home, as it’s just gathering dust.

Nancy Hemming is a crap troller. I had someone pretend to be disabled and make fun of my disabled mum’s (very recent) death on another forum a few years ago. Now that really was trolling.

That’s not even a fully finished show, is it? In any case, the reason why we don’t currently have Knightmare is the same reason we don’t have a lot of quality kids’ shows; chronic lack of money. And although I don’t think aiming sugar & fat-filled snacks at kids is a brilliant thing, it did bring ITV an awful lot of money in!

Ben Elton and Victoria Wood seemed to be talking about modern comedy as if they’d never seen any. I suspect that may well be the case. Anyone who either went to Edinburgh 2011 or is a regular on the London ‘scene’ knows that there’s loads of intelligent comedy out there. Which was the whole point of alternative comedy; an alternative to the hackneyed stuff that was getting on the telly in the 70s. Not that all the light entertainment was rubbish by any means, but there wasn’t necessarily room for anything really different.

I reckon the Silence took Amy’s baby away after she had it under their capture, then wiped her memory, but the TARDIS is picking up on the confusion in her brain. The little girl’s not the Doctor’s kid, but was actually turned into a Time Child when exposed to the TARDIS’ radiation in the womb.

    It made sense last night…

I’m a bit stunned at the accusation that Smith’s doctor is too bouncy, given the gurn-fest of Tennant’s doctor (not that I didn’t love him, but, y’know). It’s an interesting start, anyway, and I’m looking forward to the next episode…

Sorry, but I still don’t understand why Andrew got a snarky remark about something he didn’t intend and doesn’t know about. It’s genuinely confusing. Seeing as I couldn’t see anything in his posts to object to, I don’t understand the response I’m getting. I’m quite close to getting offended myself, frankly.

    >> I have no idea what this refers to. (But if it’s about knowing personal details, I don’t know any so wouldn’t be referring to any.)

    >Then I reiterate my point, sir. Pay attention on here a bit more. :-) Then you won’t inadvertently offend someone, just as you’re intimating the lovely Lisa did.

No, really, you’re going to have to help me out as well. How can anyone avoid offending someone in the future if they won’t say what’s wrong?

I loved it too, and was really quite impressed by Martin Freeman: I totally bought him as an ex-soldier. Benedict does look young, but old at the same time, which isn’t surprising, considering that he and Matt Smith seem to be auditioning for the same roles! Ooh, that Moffat’s a clever man.

I’ve heard that they’re both overpriced, but not been to either. Blisschick, if you’re into amusement parks, Thorpe Park is just outside London. The London Eye may be a bit sedate!

The Londonist website: http://londonist.com/ is handy for those non-touristy recommendations. Being a transport geek, I’d recommend the London Transport Museum: http://www.ltmuseum.co.uk/, but London has loads of great museums: the Imperial War Museum: http://london.iwm.org.uk/, the Science Museum, http://www.sciencemuseum.org.uk/ and the Natural History Museum, http://www.nhm.ac.uk/ which are all FREE, with the exception of special exhibitions. The London Transport Museum isn’t, but is reasonable, given that you can climb onto old buses and tube trains, and get a good 3 hours entertainment.

If you like art galleries, the National Gallery and National Portrait Gallery are free: http://www.nationalgallery.org.uk/ and I would endorse the suggestion of the BFI and National Theatre on the South Bank: http://www.bfi.org.uk/whatson/bfi_southbank, especially the BFI, because you can use the Mediatheque to browse their TV archive. You’re bound to find a film you fancy during your stay there.

Dirty foreigners can only tour Parliament during the Summer break, but it’s well worth doing if you can: http://www.parliament.uk/visiting/visitingandtours/summeropening.cfm (you’ll probably need to check back next year) I did a tour when I was about 18 and it was brilliant. You can also queue to buy a ticket for the public galleries when Parliament is in session: I’ll wager it’s more interesting than Buck Palace, to be honest! Just looking at the building from the outside is impressive, though, and you can go on a river cruise that goes past Parliament.

Oh, and yes, don’t block other people’s way on the Tube. It’s only polite: you can normally find a place to stand out of the way if you have to look at a map in any case. You’ll have a blast in London, I’m sure!

Palace Hill was made by the same team as Your Mother Wouldn’t Like It. There’s some Palace Hill on YouTube, but, alas, no YMWLI. Gawd bless Central Junior Television Workshop.

I have about half a show of Round The Bend, which is a treasured possession. It was made by Yorkshire, who also did Behind The Bike Sheds, featuring a young Tony Slattery. I still have the annual: I should scan it in, really, as it’s great.

Oh, and one of the dancers in the show talks about a young DJ in Leeds called Tim Westwood. I wonder if it’s the same bloke? :)

    >So Doctor Who Volume 2 Series 1 (New Series 5 (Season 31))?

    >I don?t like that simply because it feels like it glorifies the head writer over the programme.

Yeah, but they’ve already done that by choosing to reboot the numbering with a new showrunner, haven’t they? The convention alone hasn’t had that effect: it’s simply a response.

I’m sorry to come late to this, but would it make more sense to refer to the new Doctor Who series in terms of volumes as well? So taking the new Who as the starting point (which has been pretty much adopted): Volume 1, series 1-4 (plus specials), then Volume 2, series 1-?
