It’s cicada season in Narcisso! Apparently. Which means it’s really annoying outdoors and far preferable to just stay inside all day.

And just like that, Animal Crossing became the most realistic game ever made.

    A Stop at Willoughby.

I used to watch these as a child with my father, and while some were spooky and some were silly and some were off-the-wall crazy, this one dug itself in deep. Such a quiet and unassuming little vignette, but it’s stayed with me and is still one of the most affecting things I’ve ever seen on television. There’s a personal aspect to my love for it…but with a show that dug as deeply as Twilight Zone did into the human mind and heart, I think that’s fitting.

I saw An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge much later, but that one had a huge impact on me as well, especially as a writer. Though I think that’s cheating, as it was a short film or something re-edited to be a Twilight Zone episode, if I remember correctly. Nevertheless, it slots in perfectly alongside the best stuff the show ever did.

Definitely behind many of my favorite Twilight Zone episodes (and second only to Serling in that regard). My personal favorite of his is probably The Invaders, simply because of how rapt he manages to hold viewers in a half hour almost entirely free of dialogue.

    He’ll be missed for sure.

    Attention residents of Narcisso:

A veritable shitload of fruit has bloomed overnight!

There are apples, oranges, peaches, durians, bananas, cherries and lemons to eat off the ground like hobos. There’s also some bamboo to spank your wife with.

I hope you enjoy living in my town. Eventually I will speak to one of you.

    Your Mayor,

I still don’t know why PE-65000 is so annoying to Rimmer. I like that song. :/

Then again it’s not as though Red Dwarf ever made him out to be much of an authority on music…

As mayor I wish I had some say in where Tom Nook wants to plop his homes. It seems like wherever I plant a rare tree, he’s behind a bush somewhere with the keys to a bulldozer.

I think lame duck Tortimer must have been in the pocket of Big Nook and signed a massive set of zoning approvals into place before I took office. Now I am living with the nightmare!!!!

Also his sons try to sell me a watering can every day. Start carrying the damn slingshot already!

“However, for me a really great interview should never involve an interviewer interrupting or talking over the guest especially with piss poor asides”

Precisely the reason I can’t listen to the WTF Podcast, which is a shame because Maron gets interesting people to talk about interesting things. Which the then decides to interrupt. Hugely frustrating when this happens…I don’t know when interviewers suddenly decided they should outshine their subjects, but it’s a trend I don’t enjoy.

I have apples and oranges. I’ll resist the temptation to compare them.

I would have coconuts but some time last night Tom Nook dug it up to make room for a new house. They paved paradise. :(

I didn’t even check the download price…I was tempted to get it that way, since it seems like a great thing to have on the system at all times, but I had some store credit I figured I’d use up. Guess I made the right choice.

This is my system code: 2449-4714-0169

I’ll add you later, Ben. Anyone else who adds me just post here with your code and I’ll add you back.

I think I only have apples. Maybe there’s other fruit somewhere but FUCK DAT IMMA FISH ALL DAY

Alright, I bought it. There’s something appealing about a virtual Ridley coming to my town to fuck shit up, so I’ve tipped.

So far I’ve done nothing but sleep in a pup-tent. When I got to town though they gave me a pink flowered shirt and Peach’s parasol though, so I think they have a good handle on me.

    >Your review of “Smashed” rather simply describes Tobias as “a pedophile making musicals of comic books,” which is a bit of an oversimplification of his story in this whole chain of events

Admittedly it is! But that’s the third (or so, going by memory here) episode in which it came up, and I described it in a lot more detail in the previous ones. It’s a simplification, but only because we already covered it elsewhere.

The Lucille bit gets posted on Wednesday. ;)

    >including Phil

I thought I made it clear that my concern was that I wasn’t sure why they were mining pedophilia for humor when they had so much else to work with. It didn’t seem like a natural punchline for the character…I absolutely didn’t think that he was a sexual predator. I actually spent a lot of time deconstructing that scene to make my concerns clear but, well, if you didn’t get that from my write-up then I hope I at least made it clear now.

It’s not a case of not getting the joke…it’s a case of not finding it very funny.

Yep! I didn’t post all the links here but I’ve published reviews of the first three episodes. Here they are for ease of clicking:

Review: “Borderline Personalities,” Arrested Development season 4, episode 2

Review: “Indian Takers,” Arrested Development season 4, episode 3

I’ll definitely be doing the rest of the season. I’ve got a lot to say about a few upcoming episodes in particular.

“Comments by people who haven’t seen all 15 episodes should be ignored”

That…seems a little unfair. Unless somebody is dismissing it outright and saying the entire season isn’t worth watching due to their being underwhelmed by some early ones, I don’t think a comment that suggests they’re still feeling it out deserves to be ignored. Folks are entitled to opinions.

“It’s very simple, all you have to ask yourself is, who would benefit from this?
    who could it be?
The admins from here who would be in the position to take sebs job on the TOS?
and a little birdie told me that the big boys from G&T don’t get along with the big boy from TOS
they think it’s gone to his head and they do not like his personality yet are willing to be civil for the sake of RD.
    Solved. :)”

Not only does that fail to solve the question you yourself constructed, but speaking as someone who…I dunno…pays attention to things that actually happen as opposed to whatever’s going on in your head, it’s also pretty clearly utter garbage.

Do go on, though. I find that you somehow manage to talk remarkable sense in the final sentence of every post you make.

I didn’t know it going in, either, Danny. I just expected a funny cop film that would be better than most funny cop films. The only reviews or anything I read beforehand just suggested “something sinister…” in a nice vague way that preserved the surprise.

I…kinda love the gore in that movie. As well as the fact that there are genuine scares along the way. Still no Shaun, in my eyes, but fantastic all the same.

The crew journey to America in the year 2016, where they find Pecos Pete and Ben Paddon living together for financial reasons. The episode serves as a backdoor pilot for “Pecos ‘n’ Paddon: Murder Detectives” and as such finds them working together to solve the mystery of who killed Archie. In the B-plot Lister has graphic intercourse with Ben’s refrigerator.
