I’ve always read it that it was all real until:

I always took Kryten’s line, “The altercation with our future selves caused dimensional anomalies which have expanded the cargo deck by 212%. We should ascertain that the new structures are stable”, to mean that it was supposed to be TARDIS-like in VII.

I hate their comment section so much. Kat says that Chris missed Series VII because he was doing Tomb Raider, which is evidently something she’s been told and assumed to be true. The first Tomb Raider film was 2001.

I was just thinking that when Kochanski cries “I’ve tried to fit in” she sounds like she just recently got stranded from a “good” ship, like pre accident Red Dwarf. I forgot she was just with the regular RD crew, but a more sensitive version. I mean, they may have been more mature, but they were still a bunch of guys. Or is she crying about the entire time, with both crews?

The timescale of Series VII is a bit hard to fathom if you think about it too hard. There’s an 18-month time jump at the end of “Ouroboros”, after which Lister takes his younger self back in time, so presumably Kochanski has gone through an entire pregnancy and they’ve raised baby Lister for 9 months? Then we pick up in “Duct Soup” as if only a few weeks have passed and there’s no more mention of Kochanski being Lister’s mum. Lister, in his dream in “Blue”, mentions to Rimmer that she’s “been here a few weeks and she hasn’t quoted one Space Corps directive”, but that can be handwaved. I never get a sense that she’s around for that long, but maybe it all could account for the time she’s spent trying to fit in with “our” guys.

It can however be a bit frustrating when they don’t react to some of the gold in there – pretty sure the lightbulb exchange got little to no reaction from them for example! Or even worse is when reaction creators cut key sections of an episode out of their upload so you never get to see what they thought of it!

I don’t know if you support them on Patreon but the lightbulb gag wasn’t included in the YouTube edit.

A mundane observation occurred while watching Dimension Jump recently, that Arnold Rimmer is a textbook vulnerable narcissist, while Ace Rimmer became a more overt/grandiose narcissist.

Re-watching “Thanks for the Memory” on BBC2 just now; how did Lister convince the Cat to let him erase his memory, especially for Rimmer’s benefit?

Hollie is canonically genderfluid, presenting as male and female at different points in time.

Whereas for many (most?) trans people, the way they ultimately present is as the person they felt they were all along, so referring to them with their current name and pronouns when talking about past events honours that.

So for Hollie specifically, since they present as binary male and female, presumably referring to them with the appropriate pronouns at the tine of the event is fine (and I feel okay saying that since this is a fictional character and not even a human, so nobody gets hurt if it’s accidentally wrong)!
