We laughed a lot and I was pumped as I drove home to catch the live reaction Dwarfcast. I watched Twentica alone on my phone and didn’t laugh out loud at all. I think there’s a lesson here somewhere but Trojan was an amazing event definitely. Series X was sort of announced at the 2009 Dimension Jump so it was a three year hype that didn’t disappoint for me. October 4, 2017 at 12:56 am in reply to: Old People #222526 MANI506Participant 37, been there since my brother showed me series 2. He is 39 and saw Confidence & Paranoia/Me2 first time around. The hologram projection suite part of Thanks For The Memory had series 1 clips which tormented me for years until the VHS came out in 1993. So I read series 1 in the first novel and smegazine before I saw it. October 3, 2017 at 5:53 am in reply to: Should Series VIII have kept the original ending to Only the Good? #222435 MANI506Participant The original ending would have been better in the short term but in the long term the ‘what the fuck was that’ ending is more interesting. ‘What the fuck was that’ was my response to at least the second half of VIII though. September 29, 2017 at 4:56 pm in reply to: Do you do the whole introduce yourself thing? #222232 MANI506Participant I will never get tired of Patrick Stewart variations, I hope the forthcoming 30th anniversary Dwarf Cast is stuffed full of Patrick. September 29, 2017 at 10:42 am in reply to: New, mildly spoilery XII synopses copy-and-pasted within #222195 MANI506Participant I will include Back and Forth in my next rewatch and then immediately watch Blackadder Rides Again. The Black Adder was a bit like series 1 of Red Dwarf for me in that it was the series that I watched last and which had a lot of mystery surrounding it. September 29, 2017 at 10:13 am in reply to: New, mildly spoilery XII synopses copy-and-pasted within #222188 MANI506Participant Do people think Back and Forth has got better with age? I don’t really, but I wonder if anyone does. September 29, 2017 at 8:25 am in reply to: New, mildly spoilery XII synopses copy-and-pasted within #222175 MANI506Participant I’m reading JE Robert’s Blackadder book after seeing @mumoss recommend it on twitter and I’m up to Blackadder 2. I think Richard Curtis’ observation ‘no matter how hard you try making a series of six, two are great, two are okay and two are weak’ applies to all the series. My besties would be Born To Be King, The Black Seal, Bells, Potato, Dish & Dishonesty, Duel and Dualbiity, Private Plane and Goodbyeee with a special mention for the Christmas Carol which I sometimes think is best of all. September 29, 2017 at 8:19 am in reply to: Do you do the whole introduce yourself thing? #222174 MANI506Participant My name is Phil and I’ve been a fan since my brother showed me Better Than Life in 1988 but I became a mega fan around series V. First saw the G & T crew on the VII DVD in the fan film section but didn’t sign up to the website until I’d been thoroughly entertained by the Back To Earth instant reactions. I thought Pecospete’s appearance on the 25th anniversary Dwarf Cast was amazing. September 25, 2017 at 4:58 pm in reply to: Dwarfcasts XII #221885 MANI506Participant I love Dwarfcasts! The ending to the last XI one was emotional. September 23, 2017 at 2:07 am in reply to: 'Jump The Shark' – Guardian article #221781 MANI506Participant It was the FUNNIEST THING September 22, 2017 at 8:25 pm in reply to: Please view this thread to read title. #221762 MANI506Participant What a very strange day. September 22, 2017 at 8:24 pm in reply to: 'Jump The Shark' – Guardian article #221761 MANI506Participant Sorry Darrell you already clarified the point – I did see the version of Royal Flush with fake laughter and it somehow made me sadder than the original. September 22, 2017 at 8:20 pm in reply to: 'Jump The Shark' – Guardian article #221759 MANI506Participant The Royal Flush on Brit Box has no laugh track and is 75 minutes long. The version I had on VHS was the same so I’m guessing John Sullivan mucked about with it for the DVD. Is there a way of watching the new OFAH documentary online? September 22, 2017 at 3:20 pm in reply to: 'Jump The Shark' – Guardian article #221743 MANI506Participant I just watched the whole series on Brit Box and a lot of them are the original non edited versions U.K. Gold have been playing although some music substitutions are still there. For some reason To Hull and Back, The Miracle of Peckham and Miami Twice are missing entirely. I think A Royal Flush was unedited too because Del was a total cunt. The last three episodes are not the worst – I think the worst one is Video Nasty. September 22, 2017 at 10:24 am in reply to: 'Jump The Shark' – Guardian article #221736 MANI506Participant Episode one of Miami Twice did have audience laughter and is actually very good. It’s the second part that is all done on film. Episodes one and two were edited together for VHS and fake laughter was added to the second half. I have watched this version once and it is a slog. September 22, 2017 at 5:48 am in reply to: 'Jump The Shark' – Guardian article #221730 MANI506Participant I say Back To Earth is more To Hull and Back than Royal Flush. It would have been the Miami Twice if they’d been able to afford an audience. September 21, 2017 at 3:01 am in reply to: Alternative Back To Earth DVD Cover #221649 MANI506Participant I have the American DVDs but I would print out the British one September 21, 2017 at 1:13 am in reply to: 'Jump The Shark' – Guardian article #221646 MANI506Participant ‘Someone pummel my diodes’ September 20, 2017 at 5:19 pm in reply to: How has Red Dwarf changed your outlook on life? #221577 MANI506Participant So many ways but I randomly met my best friend at DJ 97 and he in turn introduced me to my wife on the occasion that we met up to watch The Beginning. Because of this I now live in Texas. Going through the novels again, they are very adult and I think they helped me put life in a healthier (possibly) perspective than I may have done otherwise. I read the first two novels when I was twelve. September 20, 2017 at 3:45 am in reply to: Should I have continued watching Red Dwarf with my partner after VII? #221564 MANI506Participant I remember Cappsy saying that he gave up on VIII half way through and Only The Good… is the only episode since V that I didn’t watch on day of broadcast. September 20, 2017 at 3:41 am in reply to: Should I have continued watching Red Dwarf with my partner after VII? #221563 MANI506Participant I always remember that ‘follow the Rimmer shaped blur’ was quoted by an actress on my college course who had shown no previous interest in Red Dwarf just after it was broadcast and then ten years later a good guitarist friend said that Pete the dinosaur was the best episode. I’m happy my wife laughed at Back To Reality and I think I’ll leave it there. September 7, 2017 at 1:46 am in reply to: Maybe I'm getting old but… #221068 MANI506Participant Barrie tongue action – never too old for that. September 3, 2017 at 6:22 pm in reply to: Classic series blurays #220998 MANI506Participant I always thought the cat walking up to Blue Midget was just partially obscured by space atmosphere – never looked that bad to me. Lister’s hat and locks going transparent during the observation dome scenes bothered me more. September 1, 2017 at 8:48 am in reply to: Wanking off to that bit in Last Human where Lister and Kochanski have sex #220877 MANI506Participant I laughed so hard at Ridley’s comment. Wanking and Red Dwarf have never gone together for me- closest I got was the Chloe Annett FHM pictures but I didn’t go through with it. August 28, 2017 at 5:54 am in reply to: Should I have continued watching Red Dwarf with my partner after VII? #220760 MANI506Participant Going by the introcast, the reaction to VII and VIII will be interesting! My wife has watched a couple of episodes with me – she really laughed at Better Than Life and Back To Reality but on the whole it’s treated as background TV which of course makes me die a little inside. Anyway, please report your partner’s reaction to the newer episodes Ben! August 27, 2017 at 7:19 pm in reply to: List (with links) of all Dwarfcast Commentaries and other ep discussions #220747 MANI506Participant Eeeeexcellent! I’ll be sad when all episodes have been covered but delighted to hold in my hands the complete Dwarfcast commentaries! August 27, 2017 at 2:54 pm in reply to: List (with links) of all Dwarfcast Commentaries and other ep discussions #220737 MANI506Participant I meant Dimension Jump the episode but I genuinely applaud your efforts! August 27, 2017 at 12:47 am in reply to: List (with links) of all Dwarfcast Commentaries and other ep discussions #220731 MANI506Participant ‘All those dwarfcasts!’ ‘They all did it, they all became ace and passed on the flame’ You missed out Dimension Jump but great work. I like looking at the dates and thinking about all the time I’ve spent listening to Dwarfcasts imagining I’m on Supermarket Sweep August 24, 2017 at 1:08 am in reply to: "biological biz" Please help #220678 MANI506Participant I literally just got that Hitch Hikers glass of water joke this year 25 years after I first heard it August 11, 2017 at 8:07 pm in reply to: Episode Titles #220496 MANI506Participant Brilliant Ridley! August 11, 2017 at 9:36 am in reply to: Episode Titles #220464 MANI506Participant Once again – how brilliant/infuriating how little I know August 6, 2017 at 8:13 am in reply to: Red Dwarf Encyclopedia Now Available! #220376 MANI506Participant RIP very sad news. His work on the encyclopedia was heroic June 25, 2017 at 1:25 pm in reply to: Who has has a Red Dwarf dream? #219930 MANI506Participant I dreamt about series XII last night. The cast addressed the audience in front of a curtain Mighty Boosh series 1 style apparently not in character. The rest of the show was a bizarre animation entirely like Attack Of The Killer Hand (Fan Film winner 2005). It was shit and I was pissed off. June 8, 2017 at 3:01 am in reply to: Smegazine – The Complete Collection #219849 MANI506Participant Oh yeah – I remember the git line got a big laugh from me because I was expecting him to shout it! The series 1 episode guide in issue 3 was a huge thrill as well. June 7, 2017 at 8:35 am in reply to: Smegazine – The Complete Collection #219847 MANI506Participant The artwork in the Future Echoes adaptation of the part where Bexley explodes made me feel sick and made me nervous to watch the episode when it finally came out on video a year later. April 27, 2017 at 2:41 pm in reply to: Set photos #219665 MANI506Participant Enough of this titter tatter – let the XII hype begin! April 27, 2017 at 12:20 am in reply to: Red Dwarf is now on BritBox in the US #219656 MANI506Participant I tweeted G&T Towers (aka Broadcunting House) about this a few weeks ago as I have never seen this picture of Rimmer in a hat before. @ganymedetitan I don't recall seeing this picture of Rimmer before also that is not from Waiting For God. pic.twitter.com/OK1Wp5rtJb — Phillimess (@phillimess) April 1, 2017 March 13, 2017 at 8:38 am in reply to: Robert's Latest Periscope #219471 MANI506Participant Thanks for the heads up! It looks ridiculous but hopefully it’ll be pulled off with style! January 27, 2017 at 3:06 pm in reply to: Dirty Feed #219216 MANI506Participant Thanks to John I have watched the first episodes of Hi de Hi and Allo Allo. There is much good stuff to come I think! John and Tanya also got me watching Brittas and Filthy Rich & Catflap. Lovely people! January 16, 2017 at 5:05 am in reply to: Series XI extras on iTunes #219141 MANI506Participant I’m glad I got those iTunes extras when I did but I’ll still be getting the DVD someday. Can’t beat the real thing! December 26, 2016 at 4:54 pm in reply to: The BBC Broadcasts Guide #218969 MANI506Participant My biggest memory of Pete was that a dancer from my performing arts course quoted the Rimmer shaped blur line. Years later a guitar playing friend of mine said his favourite episode was Pete the dinosaur. November 28, 2016 at 4:49 am in reply to: XI review scores #218688 MANI506Participant Top 5 episodes that made me go ‘what the fuck?’ at the end. 5. Officer Rimmer 4. Entangled 3. Emohawk – Polymorph 2 2. Back To Earth Part 2 1. Pete Part 1 I love The Lord Of The Rings movies but have you listened to the BBC radio version? November 16, 2016 at 11:50 pm in reply to: Would you watch a Red Dwarf porn film? #218488 MANI506Participant I’m just waiting for the DVD review… IT IS HERE. Cloche November 10, 2016 at 4:04 pm in reply to: What is the story behind this Red Dwarf clip? #218227 MANI506Participant I remember seeing this promo at the time and thinking it was all a bit pony looking. Chris is in full Gary Prince mode here. Interesting to think this is what series IX might have looked like. November 2, 2016 at 2:41 pm in reply to: Is anything major removed from the Last Human audiobook? #217961 MANI506Participant I would love a Chris Barrie unabridged recording more than anyone but I think both books benefit from being trimmed down. No idea what was cut for Last Human actually. October 31, 2016 at 6:41 pm in reply to: Dear Dave Redux #217802 MANI506Participant I didn’t make this but I’m delighted that it has the deleted scenes back in. I only watched Shithole/Trollop. October 27, 2016 at 8:50 pm in reply to: High & Low #217585 MANI506Participant The High & Low audience reactions will be better once you have all 12 series to select from. I would love to have heard the reaction to the Priory gag at the Back To Earth screening. October 27, 2016 at 3:21 am in reply to: Mindblowing thing I've just noticed about the Opening Theme… #217551 MANI506Participant What’s that about the clicks at the start of Tongue Tied?! October 27, 2016 at 3:11 am in reply to: Rank Series XI #217550 MANI506Participant 1. Krysis 2. Give & Take 3. Can Of Worms 4. Officer Rimmer 5. Twentica 6. Samsara The first 5 are very close in terms of quality. Samsara is good, just a bit of drag factor roots it to the bottom. October 26, 2016 at 2:34 pm in reply to: What would your running order be? #217529 MANI506Participant I will be generally rewatching the series in recording order.
